The Steve King Big Band 


Tonight we welcome the return of the Steve King Big Band one of the Midland’s leading exponents of big band music. The current line-up is an eclectic mix of seasoned and semi-pros, including some of the brightest sparks on the jazz scene today helping to keep the band at the forefront of the burgeoning big band movement.
Since winning a talent competition with a major brewery in the early days the band has gone from strength to strength, appearing at every major venue in the West Midlands playing for concert and dance engagements and several sell out appearances at Ronnie Scott's. It was amongst the prize winners at the annual Musicians' Union Big Band Contest an unprecedented nine times, winning outright on two occasions. They have released six bestselling albums, and have
and have released a new CD as part of its 50th Anniversary. The band can be heard regularly on many radio stations including several BBC Local Radio stations and Black Country Radio 102.5FM. It has also had tracks played on BBC Radio 3’s “Jazz Record Requests”.
Vocals are in the very capable hands of Lynn Dawes who hails from the USA. Lynn has appeared on four of the band’s albums and has proved a big hit with audiences throughout the UK.

Alex Clarke presents her latest album, Out of the Woods, which celebrates the legacy of alto saxophonist Phil Woods. Featuring fresh reworkings of both classic and lesser-known Woods repertoire alongside her own original compositions inspired by his distinctive sound. This exciting new project showcases Alex's deep connection to the bebop tradition.
Alex, a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2020 & winner of the Rising Star category in the 2019 British Jazz Awards,is recognised as one of the most in-demand saxophonists on the British jazz scene andhas performed with notable names such as Alan Barnes, Alex Garnett & Mark Nightingale and regularly performs with The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra.
Tonight Alex leads her own stellar quartet featuring some of the UK's finest musicians namely:
Dave Newton - piano, James Owston - bass & Steve Brown - drums.
Expect a compelling evening of fiery straight-ahead jazz, innovative arrangements and exciting ensemble interplay.

Concerts usually finish just after 10 pm. Access to The Bonded Warehouse is via two short flights of stairs and may not be suitable for those with disabilities. Free parking is available alongside the Bonded Warehouse in Canal Street.

There will be no refreshments served but patrons may bring a moderate amount of refreshments, including alcoholic drinks, for their own consumption during the concert.
